GENERAL INFORMATION & POLICIES
2024-2025
The non-refundable registration fee is $25.00 if you register by 6/1/24, $30.00 if you register by 7/1/24, or $35.00 after 7/1/24 and is payable with your registration form. This is for the first child in each family. Additional children from the same family will pay $15.00 each. Classes will begin Monday, August 12th, 2024. Class size is limited to allow for the proper attention by the instructor.
Tuition is based on an entire school year that is 34 weeks long. The payments are divided into 10 equal payments August through May. The first payment may be paid along with registration but no later than August 1st. The balance of the payments are due on the first day of each month. You will not receive a monthly statement.

Preschool Class $100.00 per month
One class per week $120.00 per month
Two classes per week $210.00 per month
Three classes per week $280.00 per month
Four classes per week $325.00 per month
Five classes per week $375.00 per month
Six classes per week $380.00 per month
Seven classes per week $399.00 per month
Private Lesson $110.00 per hour
Semi-Private Lesson $75.00 per hour per student
A performance will be held at the end of the school year. It is an opportunity to showcase the dancer’s hard work, dedication and talent. All dancers are required to participate. The performance/costume fee of $300.00 is used to cover the cost of costume (which dancers keep) and help with cost of props, theatre rental, professional lighting, sound etc. This fee may be made in three installments of $100 each due October, November, and January. Students who are enrolled in more than one class will pay $65.00 for each additional costume for each class and you may pay that in the three installments as well. The performance will be held May 11th, 2025 with a rehearsal on the same day. The performance will be held at the state of the art Dorothy Jemison Day Theater. Performance dates are subject to change. Tickets for the performance will go on sale in April.
Regular attendance is a must for proper development of the student’s dance education. Attendance to make-up classes of like age and level is strongly encouraged.
Withdrawal Policy: Enrollment is for the entire school year, which is 34 weeks long. No exceptions. By signing the registration form, it is agreed that you will be responsible for all tuition and fees for the entire season regardless of reason for withdrawal.
Students will not be allowed to participate in class without proper attire. Preschool classes need white Tap shoes, pink Ballet shoes, any color leotard and pink tights. Musical Theatre classes require dance clothes and tan slip-on split sole Jazz shoes. MTE requires dance clothes, tan slip-on split sole Jazz shoes and tan character shoes. All Ballet classes require any color leotard, pink tights and pink Ballet shoes and hair secured in a bun. All Jazz classes require any color leotard, tan tights and tan slip-on split sole Jazz shoes. All Tap classes require tan tap shoes (that buckle) tan tights and any color leotard. All Tap III, Advanced & Elite Tap classes require both tan heels & black slip-on split sole Tap shoes. Boys at all levels should wear black pants or tights, white t-shirt, black Ballet, Tap or Jazz shoes.
Backstage Dance Centre strives to make each student’s experience both fun and educational. Appropriate behavior is expected at all levels. Students who are disrupting others will not be allowed to continue in the program.
In the event of inclement weather, Backstage Dance Centre LLC will follow the Homewood school system.
Classes will not meet during the following dates: Labor Day (Sept. 2), Columbus Day (Oct. 14), Halloween (Oct. 31), Thanksgiving Holidays (Nov. 25-29), Winter Break (Dec. 16-Jan. 5), Martin Luther King Jr. (Jan. 20), Spring Break (March 24- March 28). The last day of the 2024-2025 season will be the day of the performance May 11, 2025.
DIRECTOR PROFILE
KELLY MANN HOLT
Studio Director
Kelly is a native of Bessemer, Alabama. She has known dance her entire life being the daughter of a dance studio owner/ teacher. Kelly trained with a Ballet company for over 15 years. She has been fortunate enough to study with instructors such as Steven Grebel, Melanie Grebel, Edward Caton, Finus Jhung (New York) and David Howard (New York) to name a few. Kelly auditioned for and was accepted by Juilliard School in New York. Kelly has trained in Classsical Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Musical Theatre. Kelly received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Dance with a double minor in Theatre and Psychology from the University of Alabama where she was a recipient of a dance scholarship. Kelly has had extensive performance experience in all areas of dance and theatre. She performed with Ballet UAB and performed in the Nutcracker for 10 consecutive years, dancing the role of Clara for 5 years. She performed with Town & Gown Theatre and Summerfest under the direction of James Hatcher and voice coach Andrew Gainey. Kelly performed in numerous musicals such as 42nd Street, No No Nanette, The Wiz, George M, the role of Anybody’s in West Side Story, the role of Alice in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and the leading role in Sophisticated Ladies; where she met Director, Mercedes Ellington. After closing the show, Kelly moved to New York City to join the Professional Tap Company, DancEllington under the direction of Mercedes Ellington. She performed in New York and went on tour with the great Duke Ellington Band. Kelly was also the tap instructor for the prestigious professional dance company, Dance Theatre of Harlem. Kelly has trained and performed with some of the greatest dancers, instructors, and choreographers including Randy Skinner. While in New York when she was not in rehearsal or class, Kelly found time to work part-time for Conde Nast.
Kelly has taught in New York, Atlanta, Orlando, and is happy to be back home in Birmingham. Kelly opened Backstage Dance Centre in 2001and is happy to be able to share the discipline and love of dance to all her students. Kelly teaches all of the classes at Backstage Dance Centre including Classical Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Musical Theatre.
Kelly attended World Dance Movement in Italy in 2009 where she performed with dancers from 22 different countries. Kelly is currently training frequently in New York City with Broadway choreographers and performers including four-time Tony nominated choreographer Randy Skinner. This enables her to teach the most updated choreography, styles, and technique to her students at Backstage Dance Centre.
